The Queen

The Queen wanted to take a hike
She’d rather ride her motorbike
But the wind was strong, and rain was due
A long brisk walk would have to do.

She raced along with powerful strides
Her determination undenied.
Wind covered her eyes with her scarf
It’s ferocity made her laugh.

But then the heavy rain set in
Leaving not much to make her grin.
She’d crossed a stream she must confess
She’d have to stop and reassess.

The Queen was a girl scout from old
And very resourceful so I’m told.
Out came a flysheet from her pack
And a survival blanket to go with that.

She made a bivouac and tied it well
Then settled down to have a spell.
Out came the thermos with hot tea
And food to feed a family.

Meanwhile the King who was playing cards
Suddenly said to the guards,
‘My gosh her walk’s become a folly
Better take her out a brolly.’

The guards were shocked. They took their cue.
They called upon Search and Rescue.
A team was formed, a plan was made
They’d start by checking down the glade.

With heavy gear and four-wheel drives
They hoped to fine the Queen alive.
They reached the stream, they saw the cause
The storm had her in its jaws.

With ropes and poles they made it through,
Then climbed a hillock for a view.
The found the Queen not far away
Looking in good shape I have to say.

‘The stream is not that deep Ma’am
You could have crossed if you kept calm.’
‘I know it isn’t’ she firmly said,
‘But have you seen the size of my dogs’ legs?’
